We will be hosting out first online dance convention, 'Live Online Convention' on June 20th and 21st. 

During this weekend, there will be a live competition held online as well as workshops.

1.) Only solos are allowed- they can be either self-choreography or choreographed by a teacher.

 

2.) Categories:

Ballet (Free or Variation)

Contemporary

Modern/Lyrical

Jazz

Hip-Hop/Commercial

 

3.) Age Divisions (age determined by the 31st of May 2020)

 

Junior- 5-10 years

Intermediate- 11-14 years

Senior- 15-22 years

 

4.) Time limit: 2 minutes

(Penalties: Over 15 seconds- 1.5 points / Over 30 seconds- 4 points)

 

5.) Scoring System:

Scoring will be done by 3 international judges

 

Technique- Level of difficulty, Control and performance, epaulement = maximum 25 points 

 

Choreography - originality, creativity, cohesion, diversity, interpretation of music, use of the stage. = Maximum 25 points  

Artistic interpretation and musicianship of the dancers. Expression. = Maximum 25 points  

Aesthetics, and visual effects = maximum 25 points

 

6.) Prizes

·      To be awarded 3rd contestant must have 65 points 

·      To be awarded 2nd place contestant must have 75 points 

·      To be award 1st place contestant must have 85 points 

 

All competitors will receive a participation certificate. Judges may give out scholarships at their discreetion. Judges feedback will be provided.

Technical Recommendations

- Try and minimize the amount of background light 

- We recommend that the computer is connected directly to the internet through a cable

- Music can either be played from a separate device (mobile) on a independent speaker, of (as we recommend) that the music is shared through the computer

- The dancer must have someone available to start and finish their music for them.

-Make sure your computer is well charged or plugged in.

 

-Dancers must have already figured out camera placement and angles before their time to dance.

-Costumes are optional and not compulsory

-Students should be ready on the competition platform 20 mins before scheduled performance time.

Sam Salter

Sam trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London and Laine Theatre Arts in Surrey; where he graduated with distinction.
Shows include: WEST SIDE STORY (UK tour) WICKED (west end) Mary Poppins (uk tour) On The Town (west end) Dick Whittington (The London palladium) and most recently completed the international tour of SWAN LAKE, where he performed in the UK, Asia and the USA, finishing the show on Broadway.
Amongst dancing and shows Sam has worked commercially for numerous brands, which have included: Paco Rabanne, NIKE, Dr MARTEEN, FARFETCH, Mcdonald’s, River Island, DUNE, was in the 2018 RESERVED Campaign choreographed by Richie Jackson (Lady Gaga’s choreographer), Last year he was a soloist for Nicole Sherzinger at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi, and also was on the cover for the July 2019 issue of ATTITUDE magazine.
Sam also regularly choreographs and teaches for professional dance colleges and dance schools across the country.

 

Kate Ivory Jordan

Kate Ivory Jordan is a 23 year old performer who graduated from Bird College with a diploma in musical theatre in 2016. During her 3rd and final year of training, Kate was chosen to dance with Olly Murs on ‘The X Factor’ for his first public performance of his newly released single ‘Kiss Me’.

In 2008, whilst training at Italia Conti, Kate landed the role of ‘Tina Harmer’ in Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre. She performed for a total of 6 months in the long-running musical.

 

Kate was also a member of the England Tap Team. In 2010, she won her first gold medal at the IDO World Tap Championships. After 4 years of competing, Kate has gained 2 World Championship titles along with many other medals.

Kate has been trained by the likes of Jason Samuels Smith, Sarah Reich and Jason Janas. Kate co-founded ‘Brighton Tap Festival’, a 3-day intensive training with some of the world’s best tap dancers and choreographers. The successful festival ran during the summer of 2015 and 2016, where she also taught her own classes.

Other credits include ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ tour, ‘42nd Street’ At the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, ‘42nd Street’ at the Theatre Du Châtelet (Paris), ‘U.K. Music Video Awards’, ‘The Alternative Hair Show’ at the Royal Albert Hall, ‘Mouth Batten Festival of Music’ also at the Royal Albert Hall, and various other modelling and hair shows.

 

Ernst Meisner

Choreographer and artistic coordinator Junior Company of Dutch National Ballet
Ernst Meisner is choreographer and since 2013 the artistic coordinator of Dutch National Ballet’s Junior Company. He danced with The Royal Ballet and Dutch National Ballet.

During his dance carrier Meisner started choreographing. Since joining Dutch National Ballet, he has choreographed several works for the company, including Saltarello (2012), And after we were (2011), The little big chest (2011) – a ballet for young children. In 2013 he created Study in Six, to music by Jude Vaclavik, for the New York Choreographic Institute. Furthermore he created dance pieces for dance films made by Crystal Ballet and made the choreography for Bounden, a dance game/App by GameOven Studios. Meisner created Axiom of Choice (2014) for Dutch National Ballet, for the programme Back to Bach, and the duet Merge (2016) for the Holland Festivalprogramme Transatlantic. For the Junior Company of Dutch National Ballet his choreography includes Embers (2013), Lollapalooza (2013) and No Time Before Time (2016). With Marco Gerris he created the much praised ‘hiphop meets ballet’ production Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2015) a co-production between the Dutch National Ballet Junior Company and ISH and GRIMM (2018). For Made in Amsterdam, danced by Dutch National Ballet, he created In Transit (2017) and in 2018 Impermanence premiered.

Layton Williams

Catarina Carvalho

Born in Lisbon, Catarina Carvalho is a London-based dancer and choreographer. Catarina danced for Company Wayne McGregor from 2008 to 2017 and has toured nationally and internationally in various company productions including Entity, FAR, Atomos and Tree of Codes. During this time Catarina was also Rehearsal Assistant and assisted Wayne McGregor in Dyad 1909, Future Self and Outlier. Catarina continues to collaborate with Studio Wayne McGregor in many projects, and often teaches workshops and masterclasses as part of Studio Wayne McGregor’s Learning and Engagement programme.
